This week I'd like to talk about using a Digital Multimeter (DMM). With engine management systems being electronic it is one of the most powerful and versatile tools at your command. With a good wiring diagram and a good multimeter, you can find the cause of almost any problem be it electrical or electronic.

Ham and Jeepin
Every now and again, someone asks me about ham radio and how it works for four wheeling. So, I thought I would take some time and write down a few comments. This will save me from having to retype the same information time and time again and it will also allow me to provide a constant response and not leave any important parts out. I think I will do this one in the form of a FAQ since so many of the questions are repeatedly asked. So here goes. (Note: For basic information about obtaining a ham radio license, please stop by www.arrl.org for information

Hands Free Phone
For the last two years I had been driving with my cell phone hung from an overhead strap, using the case hook to hold it in place. I plugged an DC adapter into the phone and cigarette lighter. When I needed to use the phone, I took it down from the storage location and did so.

Hood Lock with Starter Disable
Unfortunately, it is a common fact that Jeeps have become a big target for vehicle theft. I work in a shopping mall. Malls are considered some of the highest theft areas for vehicles. I have a soft top which could probably be cut open with a dull knife. Three strikes against me from the start. I also have done a few underhood mods that I wanted to keep safe.
A friend of mine had his TJ broken in to. He got an alarm, but also wanted a way to keep thieves out from under his hood. He found the Hood Lock with Starter Disable (part # 566T) made by Hornet Auto Security Systems. I once had an alarm in my previous YJ and all it did was make noise if someone opened something. It didn't really protect anything because most people ignore alarms. I wanted to make my stuff secure. This hood lock/starter kill combo does that. My friend ordered several of them and a group of us got together and installed them in our Jeeps.
Mobile Raido Install Tips
Maintaining radio communications between vehicles, while on the trail, enhances the enjoyment of any trail ride. The ability to summon assistance in times of emergency can not be stressed enough. Various types of radios are available to help fulfill these communication needs.
Schrade makes some great knives, and now a serious multi-tool for the outdoors. We received the Schrade Navitool to test out and see if it meets or exceeds our expectations. And we can say it completely exceeded our expectations of a multi-tool, as we have tested out several brands.
