XJ Gauge cluster swap
Many of the base model XJs come with a dash that has a large speedometer, a large gas gauge, and warning lights that are supposed to let you know if something is wrong. These lights are not very reliable. In this article I will cover how to swap in a gauge cluster in place of the “idiot lights”, so that you can better see if something is not right under your hood. You also get the addition of a tachometer and a trip counter.
Specifically, I will cover the install on my ’96 Cherokee SE. There are many changes that happened to the XJ’s gauge package over the years. I will try to cover differences so this article will be useful with any year.

YJ Aftermarket Air Conditioning Installation
After some searching, I could find only ONE article pertaining to installing an aftermarket Air Conditioning Kit in a YJ Jeep Wrangler. Those of you that live in the south, and do not want to go topless for the entire summer, know how important A/C can be. Brad Kilby from Kilby Enterprises turned me onto Arizona Mobile Air's Kit, which is what I installed.
YJ Dash Upgrade
The elegant lines of a CJ dash. Simple, uncluttered and no-nonsense. That's how I wanted the dash in my 1991 Wrangler to be. But the stock YJ dash is anything but that. Up until now, the only option was to swap in a CJ dash to get that "classic" look. Dave's Off-Road sells laser-cut steel dash's that are made specifically for the YJ. The dash is custom made to accept stock YJ switches, heater controls and speakers as well as two 3-3/8 gauges (speedometer and tachometer), five 2-1/16 inch gauges (instrument cluster gauges) and two power ports. All the stock mounting holes are pre-drilled. The dash will not work with the stock gauges since these are all on one circuit board. Aftermarket gauges will need to be purchased.
