Tire Tech
Your tires are your link to the earth they are very important and expensive, dont be too quick to buy a tire based soley on price or size or appearance. Most tires have a specific market they appeal to it may be mud, snow, rock, sand or yes even street (remeber those Goodyear Wrangler GSAs you probably had). You must carefully weight your desision based on your intended usage, and the Jeep you will be putting them on. A set of sticky tires may well be the best performance mod you can do. A taller tire alone offers greater ground clearance (GC), break over angle (BOA), approach angle (OA) and departure angle (DA). Bigger is almost allways better but it may also not fit, there are more issues to fitment then phsically bolting them on. Drivetrain components cannot withstand certain tires, the same goes for your overall gearing. So here i will begin with the two basic types of tires radial and bias ply.

Tires For Your CJ-3B
The choice of tires for a rebuilt Jeep is something that is often put off because of the difficulty in shopping around to see what's available, or because of the confusion of different tire styles and numbering systems. This page has information on different types of non-directional tires, sizes and sources.

Valve Stem Protection
No matter how bulletproof a drivetrain you build, no matter how tough you tires and wheels, the pesky valve stem remains as a significant weak point. The simple plan was to bend them with my brakeline tube bender and mount them on the backside of the rim, behind the wheel center, so that they would protrude through one of the "windows" in the rim center just enough to make airing up and down easy, but recessed enough to be well protected.

Wheel Facts
There are several critical measurements to take into account when selecting a wheel or when replacing your stock wheels with aftermarket wheels (wheels and rims being used interchangeably in this article). Among these important measurements are: Wheel Diameter, Wheel Width, Backspacing, Offset, Bolt Pattern
Wheel Stud Replacement
Being tired of having those bolts come loose on my new locking hubs, I decided I needed a better solution. At 55-cents a piece, I think I found it. Think about it, if the bolts come loose, two things can happen. One, the locking hub will grenade into small parts (that's what got us to the above project in the first place) or two, the loose bolts will wallow in the wheel hub (not the locking hub) which will also need to be replaced! Either one of these two scenarios would be an unnecessary expense. Even for the stock hubs this is an inexpensive and worthwhile upgrade.
