Spun 8.8 Axle Tubes
Fixing a Ford 8.8 that has spun it's casting on the tubes. The 8.8 axle relies on three pins per side that are pushed into three predrilled holes in the case and axle tube. When enough torque was applied, these pins sheared off between the tube and the case. This article expains how to prevent or repair the tubes from spinning.

Swap a Ford 9-inch axle in to your YJ
Wanting to switch the Jeep to 37"& tires, I started to take a look at what upgrades will be needed to run that tire size with out instant breakage to the weak Dana 35C and Dana 30.
TJ to XJ front axle upgrade
The high pinion Dana 30 front axle from an XJ Cherokee is an obvious but seldom seen upgrade for a TJ. The Cherokee front axle is a direct bolt in with all the suspension brackets in the same place as a TJ, but it has the advantages of a pinion that is around four inches higher and a 30% stronger gear set. A more subtle advantage is the shimmed pinion pre-load versus the crush sleeve found on TJ front ends. Using shims for pinion pre-load is more stable and tends to help reduce leaky pinion seals when compared to similar crush sleeve equipped axles.
I've wanted to swap a non-disconnect Cherokee front end into a TJ for a long time. The opportunity came when my friend Keith Thomas' ARB started leaking air out the differential vent. Keith had been happy with the Detroit Locker in his rear axle and now seemed like a good time to upgrade the front to a Detroit as well. I mentioned the possibility of raising the pinion up several inches using an XJ front housing and Keith's decision w
Wagoneer D44 6 lug to 5 lug
The 1978 Jeep Wagoneer front Dana 44 axle that I am using is a very good choice for a upgrade in the front. For starters its almost 50% bigger than the Dana 30, which came stock with most jeeps i.e.. CJ's & YJ's, and not just in length, which to some will be another problem, but also in the ring gear size and axle shaft diameter and also the axle shaft u-joints are bigger.
But in my upgrade my biggest problem was the lug nuts, the Dana 60 I have for the rear came stock with 5 on 5 and half bolt pattern. How you may ask? Because it came out of a 1970-1973 Jeep half ton truck (it was only a heavy duty option for those three years) and is a semi-floating axle. Meaning it is like a AMC 20 with one piece axle shafts, but way bigger. Anyways, I needed to convert that front D44 to 5 on 5 and half bolt pattern.
