Bestop Duster install

Im not sure about the rest of you, but I like to cover my belongs that I carry in the back of my TJ when I have the top off. Not only does it cover and protect your belongs from dirt, dust and a rain storm or two that just happen to roll over. I like the fact that it makes your Jeep look cool because of the sleekness, but it also appears to make it look complete. If you run often without a rear back seat or simply without back seat riders this is for you.

The hardest two things you have to decide on this install is do you get a bestop duster for a hard top or a soft top. I think the hard top duster simply doesn't use the bars from the folded down soft top. So if you have a soft top installed I would order the soft top duster. Secondly the tighter you fold your top down in back the easier the install. Dont worry you dont have to have it perfect.

Tools: Time:
None 5-10 minutes

If you like to keep your rear seat in the back you will have to fold it in half. You do not have to secure the seat with anything to keep it folded. I recently found out that my seat can still remain in after I installed my Tuffy underseat storage box with the duster cover on.

Now below everything done was referenced from the drivers side. I like to take pictures and note things from one side to keep it simple and not to loose my intended audience. Plus once you do one side its the exact samething on the other. Simply do the drivers side first then walk around and do the otherside. If you have any questions or comments about this install visit.

This is the duster cover laying exactly like it would in your Jeep. The top of the duster would be the closest thing to your front seats and the big pocket looking things wrap around your roll cage.

Throw your duster in the back of your Jeep. Move it around so its nice and spread out and not caught or snagging on anything that might be loose under it.

Take the front strap and loosely tighten it. This will help keep the duster from moving around while your attaching the rest of the cover.
DSCN2832.JPG
Tuck the front of the duster under the lip where normally the lower edge of your soft window would tuck. For you hard top windows its the first lip just behind where your door would of been.
DSCN2833.JPG
Notice the finger. Its in the same exact place as the prevous picture. Gently push the lower edge of the duster into the grove from the front all the way to the back to your roll cage.

Do the exact thing on the passenger side. Now your going to have some resistance because the duster is tight and probably very brand new. In the warm sun your cover maybe more flexable and plyable. As it gets colder it gets a bit harder to stretch.

Using your palm slowly slide your hand from the front to the back with a taping movement to ease the edge into the lip.

Looking at the rear where my finger is pointing is where the next piece is going to be installed

Take the lower edge of the duster closest to the rear swing out door and gently tuck it into place.

Now continue to tuck the rest of the rear section into place. Its going to get a bit harder as you round the corner. Just be slow and gentle and it will go into place

As you round the corner you will feel the most resistance of the entire install. Slowly apply pressure and the black lip will bend in and under.

After you have the entire rear section on both sides tucked in you can fold over the velcro and secure your duster around the roll cage. If you dont have enough slack make sure the rear is tucked as tight as it can then pull a little bit in the front to pull just enough slack to velcro the top and bottom.

This is what the rear should look like in the front and rear. Make sure you tuck your seat belt clasp under your duster so it doesn't flap around. You can take a zip tie or a small velcro strap to make sure your seat belt doesn't flap in the wind behind you. I've learned to live with it myself.

Tighten both of the straps in the front to complete your install. Every once in a while check the tightness of your two front straps after a long trip or a trip on the freeway. As long as its tight rain will roll right off in a light shower.

This is a side view. Mine has a little bit of a hump because I have my back seat in along with a Tuffy Security drawer, which raised my back seat up 4-inches.

This is the back view along with showing you the little lip that hangs just abot the rear gate. It will throw water off even in a rain shower. Remember the faster your going the farther rain will fly.
