LED Tail lights page 2

Knowing the passenger side had the swing out I used it to determine the look of where the 2-inch white went. I tried several approaches. Above my 4-inch, beside and below. Below seemed like the ideal place.

Again use the Duct tape to insure there is no chipping.

I did some test fits with the groment to determine where the final home would be.

I placed the groment in the Tidy Cat liter lid.

Remove the groment and now I have the cat litter lid as the reference point to where I was going to cut. Now keep in mind the cat litter lid fit over the groment notch. So we are going to have to cut smaller on purpose or the hole will be to big.

Use a marker and trace around the lid for the outline.

I took a regular drill and a 1/2 bit and went for the center

From the center I started cutting out the hole with the dremel and carbid bit. It worked great, but man Duct tape can serious smell. =)

The hole is cut out. The metal you see hanging is actually magnatized peices of metal from the cutting process.

Im aware this picture looks a bit rough. Some reason or another my hand slipped and the dremel walked down the side of my fender. However I have some touch up paint and I do plan on retouching up all the paint under the groment to simply deter rust. It wouldn't be noticed otherwise because the groment covers the hole inside.

For this to work its simple. Slide the groment into the hole and there is a raised lip that sits inside of the tub and acts as an anchor so it doesnt fall out.

Groment is in place and doesn't appear to be very loose at all.

The 2-inch lights install a little differently than the 4-inch but this is all about testing fitting. Gently push the light in until it more or less seats into place. If you can not get it to seat flush then the hole needs to be enlarged a little bit. Make sure you grind or cut evenly all the way around because you want as close to a perfect circle as you can.

Lights fit so lets make another template for the drivers side.

Tape the paper over the hole.

Cut it out useing a sharp knife.

Cut it out.

Retape it onto the drivers side.

flip it back so you can slide in your duct tape.

Yep thats what duct tape looks like. =)

Place your lid or whatever you choose as a reference. Notice the hole actually cut is smaller than the reference cat litter lid? Big mistake to be to big.

Cut out your hole and make sure you test fit after each cut.

After each hole was cut, groments and lights test fitted it was time to wire it all up. Remember that wiring harness you cut from your stock tail light? I unclipped the factory harness from the jeep and began test wiring up the new lights with electrical tape to insure everything worked as planned.
