Toys By Troy oil skid

Im not sure about the rest of you, but there has been many times when I wondered when or how am I going to punch a hole in my oil pan.

There are a few companies like Skidrow and Warn that make full size engine skids that cover from the oil pan back to the transmission. However Ive read many posts on many forums about others having issues with the mounting brackets not fitting right or clanging on the driveline while flexing.

There are other companines like NthDegreeMobilty who have come up with a skid that wraps around the oil pan and simply protects it only. As well along comes Toys By Troy with a very simple and very cost effective skid. This skid is very close to the oil tank and mounts very simply.

Tools: Time:
18mm Socket
18mm Wrench
13mm Wrench
10-15 minutes

To be out right honest my reason for picking this particular skid was more or less a fluke. Down here in Washington state there was a 4x4 Swap meet and I decided to check it out with a few friends. While wondering around I came across Northridge4x4s both. They had parts all over the place and being a pretty good fan of Toys By Troy I wondered over and grabed the skid in a box and told Dave I wanted it. I wasn't sure what to really expect on the install or how well it would work. I didn't take any photos of the install because to be honest its more or less self explanitory when your laying on your back under your Jeep. This is definately a do it yourself mod. If you have any questions or comments about this install visit

This is the Passenger side looking towards the drivers side. You can see the little laser cut TBT near the front edge.

Head on shot looking towards the rear. The stock tail pipe hands just a hair lower than the oil skid.

Looking straight up. As you can see from the very top edge it swoops up just enough to encompess the entire oil pan.

After several attemps laying on my back you can see the entire bottom section of the skid.

There is a big enough opening to allow you to change your oil without droping the skid. The oil plug sits just behind the bottom of the skid.

Sorry for the blurry picture, but you can see the bolt that holds the skid to the front of the transmission. There is one bolt on both sides that holds the skid in place and a small bolt in the center. You will need a 13mm wrench and socket along with a wrench in the middle bolt.

As you can see the skid lays just below the exhaust

looking from the front to the rear. See how the drain plug sits just above the skid.

Easy access to the drain plug.

Nthdegree transfercase skid on the right and Toys by Troy oil skid on the left. The skid is very small and from what I have observed on the install it sits flush with the oil tank. There is only 3 mounting holes on the transmission side and it sits freely on the front edge.
