York mounting bracket

In order to mount your York compressor under the hood and utilize the belt system you have to add this new bracket or design your own. Kilby Enterprises designed a system along with a new belt that solves the problem by relocating the alternator. After a few emails exchanged with Knowwhere2Jeep my bracket was ordered and sent for installation. I do have air conditioning and this kit works along with it so I could maintain my A/C. Whats a Jeep without A/C? =)

As in all work with something electrical under the hood. Disconnect the battery!!!

Remove the serpentine belt.

To make things easier to get to down the road I removed the 3 bolts (8mm) holding the air box in place. Look under the fender to locate the nuts (10 mm). They can fall in some strange places. Don't ask me how I know this.

Air box removed.

Using a 13mm socket remove the wire going to the alt. Also on the back of the alt. is a black wire connector that simply unsnaps.

Remove the 2 bolts (15mm) holding the alt. in place.

Alt. removed.

Remove the 4 bolts (15mm) holding the Alt. bracket in place.

Remove the bolt (Torx #45) holding in the idler pulley. The actual pulley is the only part to get re-used.

the Kilby bracket to the engine with the 4 bolts (3/8 X 16 X 1") and washers. Torque to proper specs for your year vehicle, this varies.

Set the York on the mount and install the 4 bolts (3/8 X 16 X1.5") and washers. Only tighten them finger tight so you can slide the York around to tighten the belt.

Install Alt. by first putting in the bolt (3/8 X 16X 3") through the single ear of the Alt. With washers and nylon locking nut. Leave this a little loose so you can rotate the double eared side up and into the mount.

Now is when we will re-use that idler pulley. Assemble it as shown with the bolt (M10 X 140mm) going through the flanged bushing, idler and then the spacer.

Slide this whole assembly through the double eared side of the Alt mounted on the Kilby bracket. Tighten both bolts to proper specs.

Install the adjusting studs flat washer and nuts (3/8 X 16). Tighten the two nuts (9/16 wrench) evenly to pull the belt up. Once the belt is to the proper spec tighten the 4 bolts (9/16) under the compressor to hold the York and belt securely.

If you have AC now is the time to check and make sure that the lines don't touch any where near the clutch. They are easy to bend to get them to move out of the way. Just make sure not to kink them.

Re-connect the wires to the Alt
